COVID-19 Protocols Updates

These are completely open-air experiences.  While this environment makes the transmission of Covid-19 unlikely, the Captain and crew closely monitor New York state guidelines for any updates on best practices.

The Boat

Hand built in 1929 from native hardwoods, the 82-foot schooner Shearwater is a throwback to a bygone era of yachting. Having sailed around the world twice and called over half a dozen major ports home in her time on the water, Shearwater has been taking New Yorkers and the city’s visitors sailing in the harbor since 2001. She was named a national historic landmark in 2009 and her gorgeous original teak deck and mahogany interior are a testament to the beautiful handiwork not seen on more modern sailing ships.

Food & Drinks

  • There is a cash bar on board (a selection of beer, wine, simple mixed drinks and a delightful new line of NYC-produced canned cocktails. Also available is an array of non-alcoholic choices such as water, soda, and juice).
  • No beverages may be brought aboard by guests.
  • You may bring food aboard for your sail, but stay away from red sauces, potato chips or anything else that could stain the deck. Please throw away any trash at the end of your sail.

What to Wear

  • Passengers are asked to wear only soft-soled shoes such as sneakers, deck shoes, flip-flops or sandals. Heels and boots can scuff the deck. Bare feet are also fine.
  • The temperature can be cooler out on the water so dress accordingly.
  • Light skirts and wind do not always mix!
