Highlights of Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center:
Interactive Salt Marsh
If you're looking to cool off on a hot summer day, the Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center has just the place for you - an Interactive Salt Marsh. Visitors 42.5 inches or taller can roll up their pants and take off their shoes to get an up-close look at Long Island's marine life. An Aquarium staff member will guide you through the marsh while describing the many inhabitants of our local salt marshes. Watch as killifish glide past your toes, but be careful not to step on that rock - it just might move!
Poseidon's Peak & Playground
Poseidon's Peak & Playground provides visitors with the opportunity for invigorating playground fun in a beautiful outdoor setting along the Peconic River. Adventurers can add an extra dose of excitement to their visit by scaling our 25-foot rock-climbing wall!
Please note that you must weigh between 45 and 250 lbs. to scale our rock-climbing wall, and must also sign - or have your parent/guardian sign - a liability waiver.
Coral Reef
Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center's Coral Reef exhibit is the largest all-living, closed-system Coral Reef display in the Western hemisphere. Thirty feet long, the 20,000-gallon exhibit depicts a natural reef ecosystem, including a reef wall, crest, terrace, and back reef.
Our live Coral Reef exhibit incorporates both stony and soft corals, as well as anemones and coralline algae. It also features approximately 800 types of fish and other marine life, including tangs, wrasses, gobies, angelfish, sea cucumbers, snails, crabs, and sea urchins.
The size and diversity of this living Coral Reef provides a unique view of natural aquatic behaviors, as different types of fish play their natural role in the complete, self-sustaining reef ecosystem.
