Harlem Gospel Tours The Harlem Gospel Tour will take you through the neighborhoods of Harlem and past its famous landmarks, the Apollo theatre, The Schomburg center, the Abyssinian Baptist Church. Visit it charming residential enclaves as well as its elegant apartment buildings. Includes a walking tour of residential sections and stops at historic sights. Harlem has an amazing story to tell at every turn. Then, join a local congregation for the worship service and experience the soul stirring power of gospel music. Cancellation Policy: There are no refunds. All sales are final. Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center. Join us in the Black capital of the world, and learn about Harlem, its start as a rural Dutch community, its transformation into a summer retreat for New York's most prominent families, how it then became a Mecca for African American writers and artists at the turn of the century, to its troubled past during the 1960's and 1970's, and its present day community brimming with pride and reveling in it's new renaissance. Along the way you will see famous sights and landmarks such as the St. John the Divine, Columbia University, City College, Morning Side Heights, the Morris Jumel Mansion, Sylvan Terrace, Strivers Row and The Abyssinian Baptist Church, Sugar Hill, St. Nicholas Avenue, where Duke Ellington lived and the famed 125th street, Harlem USA, the Cotton Club, and the Apollo Theater, the Schomburg Center for research in Black Culture. Then, join a local congregation for the Sunday worship service and experience the soul stirring power of Gospel music. This tour is available in English, French, German, Italian or Spanish. The Sunday gospel tour includes a visit to a local church and visitors take part in a traditional Sunday service for about an hour to an hour and a half. The Wednesday tours include the "Hour of Power Gospel Service," a collaboration between Harlem Spirituals and The Addicts Rehabilitation Center featuring the talented ARC Gospel choir.
